ABA Section of Litigation publishes article by Partner Mark Rooney

On November 27, the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Litigation, Consumer Litigation Committee, published Partner Mark Rooney's article, "The Many Ways to Extend a Limitations Period."

In the article, Mark discusses some key definitions and distinctions relevant to the many doctrines that may extend a limitations period, including the statutory discovery rule, common-law discovery rule, equitable estoppel and equitable tolling. He notes that application of these different doctrines is often fact-specific, and there are exceptions to these general rules.

Mark is a partner in the firm's Washington, DC office. His clients include debt collectors, mortgage servicers, creditors, banks and other businesses facing consumer lawsuits with an emphasis on issues arising under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and other consumer protection laws. Mark also provides compliance counseling and advice, responses to government investigations, oversight of managed review and document production, and other litigation support services. He co-chairs the ABA Consumer Litigation Committee's Subcommittee on TCPA and FDCPA Litigation.
